P-trap
The U-shaped pipe under a sink that blocks sewer gas from coming up.
That curved pipe under every sink isn't an accident. The 'P-trap' holds a small plug of water that seals out sewer gas while still letting waste flow through. If a rarely-used drain smells like sewage, the trap has probably dried out — run the water for a few seconds to refill it.
