R-value

A measure of how well insulation resists heat flow — higher is better.

R-value rates an insulation material's resistance to heat flow. The higher the number, the better it slows heat moving in or out of your home. Attics and walls have recommended R-value ranges that vary by climate. Under-insulated or compressed insulation has a lower effective R-value, which shows up as higher energy bills and uneven temperatures.
