Drip loop

A downward bend in a wire that keeps water from running into a connection.

A drip loop is the intentional U-shaped dip put in an electrical or appliance cable just before it enters a box or fixture. Gravity pulls water to the bottom of the loop where it drips off, instead of running along the wire into the connection. You'll see them on overhead service entrances and outdoor fixtures; if one is missing or pointing the wrong way, water can track inside.
