TPR valve

A safety valve that releases pressure so a water heater can't explode.

The Temperature & Pressure Relief valve is the most important safety device on a water heater. If temperature or pressure climbs too high, it opens to release it. Once a year, lift the lever briefly and confirm water flows and then stops; if it's stuck or dripping constantly, have it replaced. A failed TPR valve is a genuine safety hazard.
